Why I Started Hummingbird AI Labs
A Note from the Founder
Whether we like it or not, AI is changing the world around us. I started Hummingbird AI Labs to explore the relationship between AI and human expertise — and how one can inform and uplift the other.
Some of you reading this are standing at a crossroads in your career, wondering how to navigate a rapidly shifting landscape. Some of you want to be part of the AI revolution — to understand how it works and how to work with it. You may be an owner or an employee of a small business looking to reduce costs and gaining insights on growing your business. You may have heard that AI can help with that. Some of you just want to cut through the noise so you can tell what’s hype and what’s real.
I got my first glimpse of machine learning and AI twenty years ago in college, when I worked on automated Question and Answering systems (yes, exactly what chatpgt does today!). Back then, we were building some of the foundational ideas that made today’s large language models possible — though I don’t think any of us truly imagined how far this would go. The models themselves are, at their core, pretty simple. The fact that they work so well is still astonishing to me.
The heart of this company is built on experimentation, research, and curiosity:
What’s possible with AI?
How can we make AI work for us, no matter what our profession or passion?
How do we uncover what’s real and what’s just buzzwords?
How can small businesses see a meaningful impact from AI?
Creative individuals or companies who don’t have massive teams or endless resources, have mountains of untapped potential. The right AI tools can free up time, reduce repetitive tasks, and unlock insights that used to be out of reach.
I believe AI can be a force for good — if we commit to transparency, knowledge-sharing, and keeping humans at the center of the story.
Hummingbirds remind me what’s possible when you stay agile and adaptable. They’re small but mighty, capable of feats that defy their size. I hope Hummingbird AI Labs can help people and organizations do the same — navigate change, stay resilient, and find new ways to thrive alongside this technology.
